Happy Birthday Zoe!

Yesterday we celebrated Zoe's first birthday complete with cake, ice cream, family, presents a spring snow storm! Zoe opened presents with the help of Sophie, I think Sophie thought that the presents were more for her entertainment and pleasure than Zoe did, the rite of a big sister I guess. Zoe received lots of cute summer clothes and a couple cute toys. Thanks to Aunt Jamie, Sophie didn't make off too shabby either.

I tried my hand at a carrot cake from scratch, it tasted yummy but next time I will definitely buy a food processor, carrots are a pain to grate!! Zoe loved the cake, we let her stick her finger in the frosting while we sang and she daintily licked it off her finger. However, when we gave her a HUGE slice she dug right in and devoured it plus chugged a sippy cup full of milk!! It was really cute.

Thank to everybody who came and we missed you Grandma Cheryl and Grandpa Kraig (stupid snow!). Zoe loved having you here to share the day with her, sorry about the nasty snow storm, next year we won't invite it...lol.

A Daddy Holiday

Last weekend Heather finally left us (meaning daddy, Sophie and Zoe) alone. We have been trying to get her out of the house for a long time. So we sent her to get a pedicure/shopping spree with her sister and mother.

Then the fun began........

After cartoons (it was Saturday after all) I suggested we build a fort. Sophie thought I meant one with blocks, little did she know the full effect of my mommyless plans...

As you can see Zoe was more than happy to be playing with daddy. And I've found out that she really enjoys spelunking. (Really enjoys is an understatement, the other day when I got a blanket to put over us again she was so excited that her fists were clenched and she didn't know how to physically expel all of the excitement.)

Here is our fort we built, the first picture was Zoe inside of the fort.
Sophie enjoyed using the flashlight in the "dark" fort. All in all I think we used 8 chairs, 1 high chair, 7 blankets (3 which were quilts) and lots of fun.
Unfortunately we had to break it down when it was lunch time, we needed the chairs.

After our successful morning of fortness we though that we should venture outside on such a gorgeous day.

Here is Sophie climbing up a "ladder". She would climb one step higher then get scared and climb down, usually five minutes after she would climb again and go slightly higher.

Zoe crawled around in the wood chips and enjoyed the slide, but only when she wasn't on my lap.

After we went home and I think the girls were tired of playing together because Sophie had to "hide" on our bed so she could play with her castle sans Zoe.

Zoe found her a little later, but still hasn't mastered climbing on the bed, so as of now Sophie still has her fortress of Sophitude.

By the way, Heather didn't spend nearly as much as I told her she could, so she was either kidnapped by aliens and the current Heather is really a robot or she wasn't feeling well. So, if any aliens are watching...I'm not complaining.

1+1=Mischief

Me, oblivious mom, putting the laundry away..."Man it sure is quiet..." then I heard Zoe laugh...then Sophie giggled....

What can I say, I guess Sophie just feels that she needs to fulfill her big sister duties by introducing sugar to her innocent little sister!
